Chael Sonnen Rihanna Comment [VIDEO]: UFC Star Calls Floyd Mayweather Wimp, Jokes About Chris Brown Domestic Violence

Former UFC champion Chael Sonnen is no stranger to outlandish remarks, whether they be promoting a fight or simply to grab attention. On a recent Fox Sports Live segment discussing Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Sonnen may have leapt over the proverbial "line."

Sonnen mocked Mayweather's standing in the sport of boxing by saying, "I've never seen anybody in the history of America get so rich and so famous off of having complete wimps throwing punch at their faces. I know what you're saying. You're saying, 'Well, it's happened before, what about Rihanna?'"

He was referring to an incident in which world-famous R&B singer Chris Brown battered then-girlfriend and fellow R&B artist Rihanna. Sonnen then turned to former Seattle SuperSonics point guard and co-host Gary Payton and asked unapologetically, "Too soon? Was it too soon?"

Sonnen also bashed Mayweather's opponent, Alvarez, when he said "Floyd needs to keep doing what he's doing, which is fighting complete tomato cans nobody's ever heard of."

Fox Sports has issued a statement regarding Sonnen's poor attempt at humor that reads:

"FOX Sports regrets the comments Chael Sonnen made during last night's edition of FOX Sports Live. They were an inappropriate attempt at humor that Sonnen acknowledges shouldn't have been made and he apologizes to anyone who may have been offended by his remarks."

Sonnen last fought on August 17th, forcing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to tap out to a guillotine chokehold on UFC Fight Night. Along with the victory, Sonnen also won "Submission of the Night."

Prior to his latest gaffe, Sonnen also had some harsh words for NBA luminary LeBron James in the not-so-distant past. He bashed "King" James for snubbing fans at a UFC event on Jim Rome's Showtime program.

"Let me tell you a story about LeBron. He asked the UFC for tickets for my fight against Anderson Silva. We sit the guy front row, and all through the night he snubs our fans. He's a guest in our house and he refuses to sign any autographs or take any pictures unless your cup size was later in the alphabet than he was able to learn."

He then said he would gladly fight James, and said the Heat superstar would run away.

"He'd run away faster than his hairline. His hair went North, his talents went South, and his mother went West," Sonnen said. He pushed the boundaries even further, saying he guaranteed a fight would occur the next time the two crossed paths. "No challenge. It's happening. Next time I see him he will shake that little boy's hand, even if I have to break his arm off and take it to the boy."
