NFL Survivor Pool Strategy 2015 Week 6: Three Best Bets So You Can Make It To Next Sunday

Survivor pools are fun, and they seem easy, but it’s actually very hard to last longer than a few weeks. For those who have never done a survivor pool, the rules are simple. Each week you pick one team to win outright—usually, survivor pools do not use spreads. Once you’ve picked that team, they’re unavailable to you for the rest of the season.

These are three picks that will keep you alive.

The Sure Thing: Broncos over BROWNS

This week is light on sure things, and the Broncos are both on the road, and trotting out a noodle-armed version of Peyton Manning who has barely resembled the former MVP he used to be. Despite his struggles, the Broncos have the best defense in the NFL right now, and have survived Manning’s picks to race out to a 5-0 record.

Josh McCown had a huge game last week in Cleveland’s upset of the Ravens, but the Ravens are wounded birds. Denver is a different story, and even if Manning’s limitations keep it close, the Browns will have a tough time escaping with a win.

The Next Best Thing: VIKINGS over Chiefs

The Chiefs tripped me up last week, which serves me right for believing in Alex Smith. The Vikings, coming off a bye week, should be well-prepared for a Chiefs squad that’s suddenly without its heart and soul, Jamaal Charles. Running backs are de-valued these days, but Charles was a rare exception. Kansas City’s defense has not lived up to expectations, so Adrian Peterson will run all over them.

If You Want To Get Cute: TITANS over Dolphins

The Titans didn’t look great last week, but the tonic for out-of-sync teams this year might be the dysfunctional Dolphins. Miami can’t stop the pass, so rookie Marcus Mariota is likely to carve up the Dolphins, who just promoted a tight ends coach to the top spot, and fired their defensive coordinator.

Miami is a complete mess, and even though they have obvious areas where they can attack Tennessee – primarily with Lamar Miller – they have an allergy to giving him enough carries.
