The Arena Football League franchise owned by the legendary rock band KISS has extended a contract offer to former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.
Just days after the New England Patriots cut ties with the former Heisman Trophy Winner and Florida star, KISS owners have emerged to express their affections. According to USA Today Sports, the deal would be for three years and could be worth "millions."
Tebow is the first player targeted by the franchise and famed KISS bassist Gene Simmons explained to the newspaper management views acquiring him as a "great investment for the team." Simmons added "his exciting play would definitely send shockwaves through the league. We're excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin' their Tebow shirts and jerseys."
Long known for their outlandish ways, the devoutly religious Tebow would seem the antithesis of his would-be new employers. The band has also long denied suggestions that its name is an acronym with one "S" referring to Satan.
"Similar to how Kurt Warner blossomed in the NFL after becoming one of the greatest quarterbacks in AFL history, we feel our league is the best place for Tim to refine his skills and gain valuable repetitions. We have tremendous faith in Tim's ability to succeed in the AFL." team co-owner Brett Bouchy told USA Today.
Warner was also a born-again Christian who after years of struggling to find his place emerged as an NFL star who won two MVP awards and led the St. Louis Rams to a 1999 Super Bowl win.
"Tim Tebow is one of the most recognized and respected athletes in sport." said Paul Stanley, KISS' longtime frontman. "His joining us would mean great things for his fans and for our team, especially from a business standpoint. His credibility within the sports arena is paramount and with our commitment to bringing football without compromise back to LA, we're excited to see how this offer turns out."
