Heading into this season the read option is all the rage, so it makes sense that Monday Night Football kicks off with two of the NFL's fastest quarterbacks.

Robert Griffin III will start for the Redskins, after a long offseason filled with speculation about his surgically repaired knee. Griffin was held out of the entire preseason despite his protestations, and could potentially have been held out of tonight's opener.

"You're always trying to take a look at what's in the best interest of your football team, obviously the health of your football team as well," Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said. "But if we didn't feel like Robert was full-go, and he was ready to play and do all the things that you ask a guy to do, he would not be playing in this game. We believe he can do everything that a quarterback is asked to do."

For Griffin to be truly effective, both he and the coaching staff need to have the faith in his knee to go full bore and unleash him in the running game, which maximizes the passing game's lethality.

On the other side, Michael Vick used to be what RGIII is today. With Chip Kelly's new offense, Vick believes he can return to his former, electric form.

"I'm going to have the opportunity to do what I want to do in this offense and run the football," the 33-year-old Vick said. "And yes, I will be a threat. I think you've got to take on a certain mindset that you're going to play the game all-out."

Eagles Injury Report:

Redskins Injury Report:

Probable: Barry Cofield (DT), Kirk Cousins (QB)
