Today at 1:00 p.m. the Carolina Panthers will open the 2013 season at home against one of the NFC's most popular picks to reach the Super Bowl. The game can be live streamed here; Panthers fans can listen to the game on WBT 1100 AM, while Seahawks fans can do the same on KIRO-FM.

The Panthers enter the season as a sleeper contender in the eyes of many analysts, but they will need to avoid their typical slow start if they plan on making the postseason. That could be difficult to do against the Seahawks, who boast one of the NFL's best young quarterbacks in Russell Wilson, a power running game with Marshawn Lynch, and a stout defense led by cornerback Richard Sherman.

"We can't put ourselves in that hole and think a late six-game push is going to put us over the top when you start the season 2-8," Panthers tight end Greg Olsen said. "We need those late-season pushes, but that is to put you into the playoffs not to just salvage a season.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks know they must start hot as well with the formidable San Francisco 49ers within their division. "We're ready to go," said coach Pete Carroll. "It's great that the regular season is here."

The promise of Seattle's offense matching the ferocious defense seemed likely this offseason when they traded for wide receiver Percy Harvin, who promptly injured his hip in the preseason and required surgery that could potentially keep him out all year.

"It's going to take a good month before we will be able to figure out if he is even going to have a chance to come roaring back out of it," Carroll said.
