NFL Confidence Pool Strategy 2015 Week 5: 3 Trap Games To Beware Of

Chances are you are out of your survivor pool, but that’s okay, because confidence pools are season-long. These pools seem easy, but each week there are surprises that can sink your total.

For the uninitiated, here’s a quick overview of confidence pools. Players pick each game of the week, and assign “confidence” points to each one. So if you think the Patriots are a lock, they get 16 points, and so on. The weekly winner has the most points, not necessarily the most correct picks.

3 Survivor Pool Picks That Will Keep You Alive In Week 5

Here are three Week 5 games that may trip you up.

RAIDERS vs. Broncos

The Broncos are 4-0, and the Raiders just got dropped by the previously winless Bears. Why would Denver be worried? For starters, Oakland is back home. Second, they already have pulled off one shocker, a road win vs. the Ravens. Finally, the Raiders’ pass rush isn’t bad at all, and it’s boosted by OLB Aldon Smith. Peyton Manning has been under pressure all season, and his numbers have showed it.

Best Bargains On Draft Kings for Week 5 At Each Position

The Broncos’ perfect record speaks more to the quality of their defense than how they’ve played offensively. If that defense has an off day, it’s no given that Denver will be able to score at will vs. Oakland. Throw in that it’s a divisional game, and this has all the makings of a potential confidence pool disaster.

Redskins vs. FALCONS

The Falcons are on fire, but this team is far from perfect. Their level of competition hasn’t been stellar, and they struggle against the run, which the Redskins love to do. Alfred Morris and Matt Jones are coming, and when they excel is when they’re pounding opposing defenses.

Atlanta has feasted on a Texans team in shambles, a Cowboys team without Tony Romo, and had to come from behind vs. the Eagles and Giants. This is a shaky 4-0 club, so don’t write off Washington and go too nuts with the Dirty Birds.

TITANS vs. Bills

The Bills might be a popular pick to bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss, but beware the Titans. They’re exceeding expectations because rookie Marcus Mariota is further along than anticipated, and now the Titans have had a week off to prepare him for Rex Ryan’s blitzes.

The Bills are also a train wreck in terms of discipline, leading the NFL by a mile in penalties. On the road, those mental mistakes won’t fly, especially against a QB like Mariota who limits his own mistakes.
