The estranged wife of George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain recently acquitted in the murder of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin, now says she "never really knew the man" she was married to for six years.
Appearing on Friday's airing of "Good Morning America," Shellie Zimmerman added the one thing she is certain of is that her soon-to-be ex is "selfish" to the core.
In her petition filed just days ago, Shellie Zimmerman is seeking the couple's two dogs and a cut of any judgment Zimmerman is awarded from a pending defamation of character suit he has filed against NBC News.
Meanwhile, several news sources have already reported Shellie Zimmerman is currently receiving about $4,300 in monthly living expenses from the Zimmerman Legal Defense Fund, an account that purports on its official website that the couple's "day-to-day living expenses are relatively modest as they want to preserve as many funds as possible for an aggressive defense."
The site's homepage adds "currently George and Shellie are renting a secure residence at a reasonable rate." In fact, according to legal documents filed by Shellie Zimmerman, the couple has been separated since Aug. 13 and multiple news reports have previously estimated that the site raised more than $300,000.
Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty last month to perjury charges for lying about the couple's finances when the judge was initially setting bail for her husband and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service.
She appeared in court alone during those proceedings and later told reporters she felt "very much alone" without her husband appearing in the courtroom to support as she had done with him throughout his lengthy trial.
Since his acquittal Zimmerman has already been stopped twice by police for traffic infractions and earlier this summer posted pictures of himself online gun shopping and posing with the exact same gun model he used in the Martn shooting.
