A Facebook rant, posted on a page purported to be that of Michael Vick’s mom argues “it sickens me how my son had to go to prison for dogs when we know of two cases such as the Zimmerman and case (sic) took 2 kids life and got off Scott free.”
On a page in the name of Brenda Vick, the post further reads: “SMH! Do Zimmerman and Anthony think they really got away with this? U both have to answer to God… different strokes for different folks.”
George Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watch patrolman, was recently acquitted in the murder of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin after he disobeyed a 911 dispatcher’s orders to cease with following the teen, who he later admitted he thought looked suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie and slowly walking through his gated-community neighborhood.
Martin’s body was found sprawled across a front lawn just steps away from the doorsteps of his father’s home. According to the Miami Herald, nearly two years before Casey Anthony walked out of a Florida court room as a free woman after being found not guilty in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, despite her attorney’s admissions that she lied about a babysitter having stolen her daughter.
By contrast, Vick was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison in 2007 for running a dogfighting operation and as the verdict was being administered a federal judge admonished him he would be receiving a harsher sentence than the other defendants in the case because of his "less than truthful" statements, The Herald reported.
To his credit, since being released from prison, Vick has re-launched his NFL career and recently was named opening day starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
