Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown made his fantasy owners proud Thursday night with a big game in the NFL 2015 opener that was bolstered by a garbage time touchdown with two seconds to go in the game. They all count the same in fantasy, so he was a darling to those owners, plus the millions in daily fantasy leagues who played him.
Bettors, however, might be a little pissed.
The problem with Brown’s touchdown is that it cut the Patriots’ lead to 28-21, and because there were only two seconds left, that’s where the final score fell. That was a big problem for those who bet New England, because they went from an easy cover to a push. According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the touchdown created one of the biggest swings in recent memory.
One of Rovell’s followers pointed out another way Brown’s late score screwed with bettors. Even though the over/under of 51 points was not affected, Ben Miller noted the second half over/under was.
Brown finished the game with nine catches, 133 yards and a touchdown. For fantasy purposes, that’s a ton of points no matter what scoring system your league or daily fantasy site uses. It’s hard to blame Brown for scoring; the man’s just doing his job.
