Floyd Mayweather Vs. Adrien Broner? Lucas Matthysse Predicts Marcos Maidana Will Solve 'The Problem,' Kill Talk About 'Money' May Fight

The entire boxing world has "Money" on their minds, with Floyd Mayweather's superfight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez coming on September 14th. One of the fighters on the undercard, Lucas Matthysse, has weighed in on a potential Floyd opponent down the road.

The brash Adrien Broner, nicknamed "The Problem," is a man many in the sport have a problem with. He is young and already a multi-weight class champion at 24 years old, but many in the sport believe his competition has been substandard at best.

After taking Paulie Malignaggi's welterweight belt, hard-punching Argentine Marcos Maidana, who recently linked up with super-promoter Al Haymon, appears to be next in line. Maidana's countryman, Matthysse, predicts Broner's mouth will be closed once he tastes Maidana's power.

"I think Maidana is going to win," Matthysse said. "Maidana will throw a lot of punches and Broner is going to feel that power."

Before anything can be decided on the Broner vs. Maidana front, the fight needs to actually be agreed upon first. Maidana is the number one contender for Broner's strap so negotiations shouldn't be too tricky, but in boxing one never knows. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, however, is assuring fans the fight will happen.

"The fans wanted Mayweather-Canelo and we got that done. The fans wanted Garcia-Matthysse and we got that done. And the fans want Broner and Maidana and we'll get that done too," Schaefer said.

Recently, Golden Boy matchmaker Eric Gomez said, "It's close. It's close. We're talking to both fighters. They are both willing to fight each other. It's in negotiations right now. Both guys are willing to fight each other and that's the most important thing. It's just a matter of crunching numbers."

If the match gets made and Broner can impress, he is likely to become a pay-per-view draw, and may inevitably need to face off against his "big brother." Matthysse's point that Broner hasn't faced real welterweight power is a good one, though, and "The Problem" may want to consider it before letting his ego take over.
