Kevin Kolb Injury: Buffalo Bills Quarterback Leaves Saturday's Preseason Game Against The Washington Redskins With Concussion-Like Symptoms

Kevin Kolb's chance to prove to the Buffalo Bills that he should be their starting quarterback ended abruptly.

Kolb, entering the game hoping to prove to Buffalo that he can start when the team meets its division rival New England Patriots in the regular-season opener Sept. 8, took a knee to his head in the team's preseason game against the Washington Redskins Saturday and left the game before just the third offensive series.

Third-stringer Jeff Tuel took the field in place of Kolb.

According to NBC Sports, Kolb was being evaluated for the head injury and was ruled out for the rest of the day after experiencing concussion-like symptoms. Kolb is currently trying to prove himself while first-year signal caller E.J. Manuel recovers from knee surgery. Kolb has a history with concussions, as he missed the entire final month of the season in 2011 with the Arizona Cardinals due to a concussion.

With Manuel recovering from surgery, a significant loss of time for Kolb could mean that the Bills will have to pick up another quarterback before the start of the season, unless they wanted to stick with the inexperienced Tuel.

Last season with Arizona, Kolb appeared in six games and went 109-for-183 for 1,169 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. In his six year career with the Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles, Kolb has appeared in 34 games and is 449-for-755 for 5,206 yards with 28 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

Kolb scrambled for a first down and was sacked during the game, and just threw short passes for the most part until he was sidelined by the injury.

The Bills are looking to turn it around after a disappointing 2012 campaign that saw the team go 6-10 and finish fourth in the AFC East while missing the playoffs for the 13th consecutive year. The Bills haven't made the playoffs since before the turn of the century.

While Kolb entered Saturday's game with a golden opportunity, it expired before he even got a chance to prove himself.
