Tonight at 8:00 p.m., the New England Patriots (2-0) will get their third look at Tim Tebow of the 2013 preseason when they take on the Detroit Lions (1-1) at Ford Field. The game can be live streamed here; Patriots fans can hear the game on 98.5 The Hub, while Lions fans can listen in on WXYT 97.1.
The biggest on-field storyline for New England this preseason is the play of Tim Tebow, and whether or not there will be room for him on the roster as the regular season approaches.
Tebow has not made himself indispensable with his play. He completed just four of his 12 attempts in Week 1 while taking three sacks, then followed that performance up with a 1-for-7 dud in which he managed to throw for negative yardage. While Tebow has a rabid fan base and unique skillset, throwing the football continues to be a major problem for him.
All preseason the Patriots have maintained that Tebow is a quarterback and will not be used to fill any roles, including the gaping holes at tight end. They've backed up those assertions as he hasn't appeared in any game at any other position.
The second biggest storyline in New England's camp is the receiving corps outside of Danny Amendola. He is expected to fill the role of the departed Wes Welker; to do that, though, he'd have to line up primarily in the slot leaving two edge receiver spots open.
As of now, those positions appear to belong to Julian Edelman and rookie Aaron Dobson.
The Pats will also have to deal with the distraction of ex-teammate Aaron Hernandez being officially indicted on murder charges today in connection with the killing of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was dating Hernandez's sister's fiancée, and was found shot five times just one mile away from Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion.
