WWE Summerslam Results 2013: Daniel Bryan Defeats John Cena, Triple H Turns Heel, Helps Randy Orton Steal Championship

Summerslam is one of WWE's premier pay-per-view events of the year, arguably second in line behind WrestleMania, so Sunday night's show had a proud tradition to uphold. And so it did, with Triple H shocking the Staples Center, Los Angeles crowd.

John Cena, nicknamed "Super" Cena by many due to his seeming invincibility as WWE Champion was finally felled Sunday night by his pint-sized challenger Daniel Bryan, who achieved a lifelong goal of becoming WWE Champion.

Bryan has become one of WWE's biggest stars, and at this point in time might be the company's most popular performer. So when he crashed his knee into Cena and pinned him for the one, two, three, Bryan's fans were surely thrilled. That thrill was short-lived.

As Bryan celebrated his victory he was interrupted by "The Viper," Randy Orton's music. He walked slowly down the ramp, but seemed to have second thoughts as Bryan egged him on. That's when special guest referee Triple H got involved.

He spun Bryan around unexpectedly, greeting him with a boot to the gut and a Pedigree. Orton then entered the ring and simply rolled Bryan onto his back and pinned him, becoming WWE champion again for the first time since 2010.

The other highlight of the event was a no holds barred match between the mammoth Brock Lesnar, and "The Best in the World," CM Punk. Heyman turned his back on Punk at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, and since then Punk has engaged in a feud with his former manager and Heyman's new beast Lesnar. Sunday night, Lesnar simply proved too powerful for all of Punk's technical prowess and in-ring savvy.

In the other title bout, Alberto Del Rio defended his World Heavyweight Championship against a strong competitor in Christian, making the latter tap out to a well-executed armbar.

Bray Wyatt earned his first WWE victory in a "Ring of Fire" matchup against Kane, with some help from the Wyatt family. Cody Rhodes defeated Damien Sandow, and Rob Van Dam defeated Dean Ambrose in a U.S. Title match, but Ambrose lost by disqualification, thus retaining his championship.

Natalya defeated Brie Bella in a Divas match, and Dolph Ziggler paired with Kaitlyn to knock off Big E. Langston and AJ Lee.
