The Los Angeles Dodgers (70-50), essentially the scariest team in baseball these days, are set for a three-game series in Philadelphia that kicks off tonight at 7:05 p.m. Live stream the game here; Dodgers fans can listen to the game on 570 Fox Sports LA, while Phillies (53-67) fans can hear the action on 1210 WPHT.
The Dodgers just can't stop winning; they've taken nine out of their last ten games, but will face a stiff test tonight in Cliff Lee (10-5, 3.18 ERA). He may not be enough to slow down the blue train speeding through the sport.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, whose job appeared in jeopardy a few months ago as the Dodgers looked out of contention, has had a hard time describing this run.
"I can't explain what's happening here, but it's fun," Mattingly said. "Puig's been great, Adrian, too. It's been a team thing. There have been contributions from different guys in all different areas, all over the field, from the bench to the bullpen to the back end of the game to the middle of the game."
The Dodgers also have an adversary worthy of facing Lee on the mound tonight in Zack Greinke (10-3, 3.21 ERA). Greinke hurled 6.1 scoreless innings in his last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays in a victory.
In the last 28 days, Greinke's been lights out, going 2-1 with a 2.48 ERA. When combined with Clayton Kershaw, arguably the best pitcher in the sport, Los Angeles' 1-2 punch could be considered the best in baseball.
Don't expect the Phillies to lie down for the Dodgers, though. Manager Charlie Manuel believes that his team is able to do much more than they've shown. "We're definitely capable," Manuel said. "We get a good-pitched game and we hold them early we can still win some games. As a matter of fact, we should win some games. If our starting pitching gets going right, I think we're very capable of winning some games."
