Rock star John Mellencamp's teenage sons seem to be living wild lives themselves. Reports have surfaced that Hud Mellencamp, a 19-year-old cornerback for Duke University, his brother Speck, 18, and Ty Smith, a freshman wide receiver for the Indiana Hoosiers were arrested last month for assault. Smith also happens to be the son of Indiana's baseball coach, Tracy Smith.

According to reports, the assaulted man was sitting on the porch of his house when the two Mellencamps and Smith began walking up his steps toward him. He asked what they wanted, and Speck responded with a fist to the face.

According to the report filed by Bloomington Police Department officer Rick Crussen, "He began being punched, kicked and stomped by Speck Mellencamp and the other two males. They have been identified as Hud Mellencamp and Ty Smith."

Upon hearing the ongoing assault, the victim's three roommates ran outside and tried separating the Mellencamps and Smith from the man being assaulted. As he began to get up, Speck then pushed him off the porch to the ground, which is a drop of several feet and began punching him again. They then ran off, without every saying anything or indicating why they attacked.

Deadspin.com is reporting the fight stemmed from an earlier altercation at a party. "Speck Mellencamp said he had tried to stop a dispute between two girls who were fighting over him and was pushed and hit by a man." All three have been charged with felony battery.

Duke football coach Dave Cutcliffe released a statement that read: "We are aware of the charges that Hud Mellencamp faces in Indiana. Currently, we are giving him the opportunity to return to Indiana to address his legal issues. We will refrain from any further comment until more information becomes available."
