Today at 12:10 p.m. ET, the Washington Nationals (53-46) and Miami Marlins (42-59) play the rubber match of their three-game series with matinee action live from Marlins Park in Miami.

Washington has dropped two of its last three as it continues a 10-game road trip while Miami resumes a nine-match homestand having lost four of its last five contests.

The Marlins took the opening game of this series with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday while Washington roared back with a 7-2 triumph on Wednesday to even things up.

Bryce Harper hit two homers, Nos. 28 and 29 on the season, and Michael Taylor (9) also went yard for Washington in its victory on Wednesday.

Adeiny Hechavarria knocked in his 39th RBI of the season in the loss for Miami.

Max Scherzer (10-8, 2.33 ERA) toes the rubber for the Nationals this afternoon while the Marlins counter with Dan Haren and he is 7-6 with a 3.51 ERA thus far in the 2015 campaign.

Scherzer has had a dominant season, but he yielded five runs in two innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates last time out.

The Nationals' ace leads the MLB with a 10.38 strikeouts to walk ratio and is tied for first in the National League in WHIP (0.83) and in sole possession of second in the Senior Circuit in strikeouts (166) and average allowed (.195) while his ERA is fifth in the league.

Haren, who pitches better at home, has had six quality starts in his last nine outings, but not a single win to show for it in that span. The right-hander has been the subject of trade talks ahead of Friday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver deadline.

Haren faces a Nationals lineup that is paced by Harper, who leads the NL in homers, runs (68), slugging percentage (.690) and OPS (1.153).

The Marlins counter with a roster that is led by the recently reactivated Dee Gordon, who is 6-for-15 with a homer in his career against Scherzer.

Gordon is second in the NL with a .337 batting average and 33 stolen bases while his 124 hits knot him for first.

In the standings, Washington enters atop the NL East with a two-game lead over the New York Mets while fourth-place Miami is 12 games behind their opponent and 14 contests back in the wild-card race.

Two NL East rivals clash in matinee action when the Nationals and Marlins play the rubber match of their series live from Marlins Park in Miami.
