Marcos Maidana (34-3-0, 31 KO), a 30-year-old knockout specialist who has been relatively anonymous for most of his career can expect a boost in profile now that he's latched on with Al Haymon, one of the most powerful promoters in boxing.
Despite his thunderous power and solid victories over established names like DeMarcus Corley, Jesus Soto Karass, Josesito Lopez, Erik Morales, and Victor Ortiz, Maidana has not received much mainstream attention, or an opportunity at any of the sport's brightest lights.

With Haymon by his side, that may all change. Maidana's manager Sebastien Contursi commented on his impending agreement with Haymon:
"I think that it's no secret that Al Haymon has become probably the most influential guy in the business, and you only have to take a look at the great fighter's that he's advising over the last few years, and the way that their careers have gone ahead since they began working with him."
With a powerful promoter in his corner, Maidana hopes he will get a chance to face Adrien "The Problem" Broner. Broner's gained a reputation in the sport for being the cocky successor to Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s villainy, although at this point in his career Broner is far less tested.
His biggest win came in a recent bout against Paulie Malignaggi, and he's never faced anyone with the power that Maidana possesses.
"Of course, it's no secret that Maidana wants Adrien Broner, so I think that Al will probably be able to get Maidana that fight," Contursi said. "That's what we like about this. In our last conversation, which was last Friday, on the phone of course, Al said that Broner wanted the fight."
Maidana's quest to solve "The Problem" is helped along by his mandatory challenger status to Broner's welterweight belt. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has also indicated he would like to match the two up.
"I'm continuing to work on it," Schaefer said. "I'm looking at November for that fight, so I have a little time on that. Broner is interested in the fight and Maidana is interested in the fight, so I need to see if I can pull it together."
