Tony Romo has been called a lot of things since taking over as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and now "thief" can be added to the list.
Former Houston Texans defensive lineman Travis Johnson, commenting on Romo becoming the highest-paid player in franchise history said, "Tony Romo has not earned a dollar he has been given in this league."
Johnson didn't lift his foot off the gas pedal of the bus he ran Romo over with after that either. During a segment on CSN Houston Johnson piled on the criticism.
"He is a thief. They need to bring him up on federal charges. If a man robs you with no ski mask on, he's gonna kill you. Exactly what he's doing -- he's killing the franchise."
It's unclear what's motivating Johnson to go so hard on Romo. The Cowboys do not play in the Texans conference, and Johnson never became a star in this league. Johnson last played in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers in 2010.
Johnson spent four seasons with the Texans and two in San Diego. He played in 76 games in his career, starting 38 of them and recording three sacks and 135 tackles.
Meanwhile, Romo threw 28 touchdown passes and amassed a career high 4,903 yards through the air. He also racked up a career-most 648 pass attempts in 2012, a clear marker that the Dallas offense has been completely turned over to him. Whether or not Romo "earned" the seven-year, $119.5 million deal the Cowboys rewarded him with, his record indicates he isn't a "loser" as Johnson referred to him.
As Dallas' starter Romo is 55-38, and he's completed just under 65 percent of his passes. He has also engineered 18 fourth quarter comebacks since 2006, five of which came last season. Those five comebacks represented a career high.
