RG3 Injury [UPDATE]: Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan Bans Griffin From Preseason Play, Both Deny Rift In Washington Training Camp

Robert Griffin III, the Washington Redskins' stellar sophomore quarterback who tore ligaments in his knee during the 2012 playoffs, has recovered nicely from his injuries but will not be allowed to play during the preseason.

When asked if he's happy with the plan in place to ensure his health for the regular season RGIII did not lie to reporters. He said that he wants to play, and doesn't understand entirely why he can't. He then also said it's not his job to understand and he supports the team's decisions.

Still, his comments raised eyebrows and kick started rumors of a rift between the coach and quarterback. RGIII is now emphatically stating there is no feud developing.

"Just want everybody to know if there's any questions about if there's a rift between me and Coach, or if there's a conflict, there is no conflict," Griffin said. "Coaches coach. I'm the player. Coach has a plan, and I'm abiding by that plan. I'm doing everything the coaches are asking me to do. I trust those guys. They want me to have a long career. And that's what part of this plan is about."

Shanahan was asked after Griffin's press conference whether there was any chance the star quarterback could see the field. Shanahan said there was not.

"Robert is an energetic guy who wants to play. He shared with you how bad he wants to play," Shanahan said. "I do talk to Robert. I talk to him about different ways that I think that you can lead or different ways to handle different situations. I will throughout the year, but it doesn't change a person's personality."

Keeping Griffin healthy is of the utmost importance to the Redskins, who rode his unique blend of speed and precision passing to an NFC crown and playoff berth. Last season Griffin threw for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also chewed up 815 yards on the ground while scoring seven touchdowns.
