PGA Championship News Update: Ian Poulter Says Golf Gallery Fans Who Shout Strange Comments After Players' Shots Should be Tasered, Draws Howard Stern Into Conversation

Ian Poulter's posted some "shocking" ideas on his Twitter account after the conclusion of the PGA Championship on Sunday may have just made a lot of golf fans angry. But they might be the lesser of his concerns.

He may have started a war with Howard Stern.

USA Today reported Sunday that the golf gallery at the PGA Championship, the last major golf tournament of the 2013 year, included its usual throng of fans who shout unusual phrases after golfers hit their shots.

Among the phrases were "mashed potatoes!," "rutabaga!," "scalloped potatoes!," and "Chewbacca!"

One of the catchphrases that has gained traction, according to both USA Today and FoxSports.com is "Baba Booey!," which is a reference to the Howard Stern radio show, specifically his producer, Gary Dell'Abate.

Fans brought up the strange comments to Poulter on his twitter account, drawing responses from the outspoken PGA professional:

"RT @Gibbons_89 @IanJamesPoulter do people who shout things like 'mashed potato' irritate pros?

>> yes they are bell ends."

Another response:

"RT@Steven Barrett05 Whats with all the people shouting Babba Booey" (word blacked out) people are shouting?

>> It makes up for there inadequacy in other areas."

Poulter later thanked the fans in the PGA Championship gallery, except for "a few mash-(potatoes)"

Then came Poulter's shocking idea:

"We should be allowed to take 10'000 volt tazers onto the course and tazer ever muppet who shouts out something stupid. I would laugh then."

That was followed by, "This baba boo(blacked out) & mash potato crap                 shouting wouldn't happen at Augusta, The Open, nor would it happen at Wimbledon. Tazer the thrushes.

Stern took notice of that Poulter tweet and got into the Twitter discussion:

"It's spelled Baba Booey" - even though it was a Poulter fan who originally spelled it differently.

FoxSports.com then reported as of Sunday afternoon that Poulter had more followers than Stern on Twitter - (1,528,407 followers for Poulter, 1,469,277 followers for Stern).

Poulter then added, ">> How have you only just got more followers than me. I thought you was big time. Hahahaha"

FoxSports.com predicted that Poulter might be berated by "Baba Booey" calls during his next tournament.
