Manti Te'o Injury: San Diego Chargers Linebacker Out For Week With Injured Foot

Tags:

San Diego Chargers rookie linebacker Manti Te'o will sit out of practice this week with a right foot sprain, and is expected to miss the team's second preseason game Thursday on the road against the Chicago Bears.

Te'o, who reports indicate wasn't available to talk to reporters after he watched Saturday's practice in a walking boot, will miss at least a week according to Chargers rookie head coach Mike McCoy.

"Manti has a foot sprain and he will be out this week and I will give you any further updates as the week goes on, or next week," McCoy told ESPN.com. "But he will be out for the week."

McCoy said the injury was diagnosed following San Diego's 31-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, but wouldn't specify when exactly the injury occurred.

"He has a foot sprain," McCoy said emphatically after the media asked him to elaborate further, according to ESPN. "I will say that and move on from there."

Te'o joins wide receiver Danario Alexander (torn ligament in right knee) and running back Danny Woodhead (undisclosed injury) on the list of players that are hurt for the Chargers. Alexander's injury appears to be the most severe as he is slated to be out for the season.

The Chargers, who haven't made the playoffs since 2009, are looking to improve on a 7-9 record and second place finish in the AFC West last year.

Te'o had 1.5 sacks and seven interceptions for 35 yards last year in his final season with Notre Dame. He's expected to start for the Chargers this season once he's healthy.
