John Lackey (6-5, 3.30 ERA) takes the ball for St. Louis while Chicago counters with Jon Lester and he is 4-6 thus far on the season with a 3.74 ERA.

Lester faces a Cardinals lineup that is paced by Jhonny Peralta, who is headed to Cincinnati in just over a week to start at shortstop for the National League in the 86th annual All-Star Game. Peralta leads the team with a .297 batting average, 11 homers and 42 RBI.
The Cubs counter with a roster that is spearheaded by youthful infielders that are led by first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who owns a club-best .292 batting average and 15 homers. Rizzo is third in the National League with a .315 on-base percentage.
As the standings go, St. Louis enters with the MLB's best record and has a six-game lead over the second place Pittsburgh Pirates while Chicago comes into play in third place, 8.5 games behind their opponents and in possession of the final wild-card spot in the NL.
