Joe McKnight Jets Running Back Arrested For Traffic Violations: Effect On Roster Spot Unclear

New York Jets running back Joe McKnight was arrested last week in New Jersey after he was pulled over for changing lanes without signaling in a 2010 Mercedes Benz. He was found to have outstanding warrants from previous violations, and was booked.

His previous violations were for a failure to present insurance in Summit, New Jersey, and the second was for failure to observe a traffic signal in Springfield. After his arrest, McKnight posted $320 bail, the sum of his previously unanswered summonses, and let go with another summons for the most recent transgression.

The Jets have declined to comment on McKnight's arrest, and its effect on his role in the team's running back rotation is unclear. McKnight was already facing an uphill battle for carries this season after the Jets traded for Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints, and signed Mike Goodson away from the Oakland Raiders.

He will also contend with Bilal Powell, who began taking carries away from last season's starter Shonn Greene as the year progressed. In 2012, McKnight toted the rock 30 times for 179 yards, an average of six yards per attempt.

Meanwhile, Goodson has had his share of legal trouble this offseason. Goodson was locked up in May after a tow truck driver informed police a car containing Goodson was stopped in the left center lane of Interstate 80 at 3:00 a.m.

Goodson was arrested for possession of a small amount of marijuana, while a gun and more marijuana were found in the vehicle. The Jets previously released two players who ran afoul of the law, but Goodson is still on the Jets roster.

Ivory has been dealing with hamstring tightness during camp, but the Jets expect him to be fit for action come Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and returning cornerback Darrelle Revis.
