San Antonio Spurs Free Agent Update: Dallas Mavericks Target Danny Green To Replace Monta Ellis? [VIDEO]

Danny Green may be on his way out of San Antonio, but he may not go very far.

Realgm.com is reporting that the Dallas Mavericks are interested in the Spurs shooting guard as a replacement for the departing Monta Ellis.

Danny Green exit from the San Antonio Spurs a done deal?

"Ellis plans to discuss a long-term contract with the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat in free agency after opting out of the final year of his contract on Wednesday, sources told RealGM. He had an option worth $8.72 million.

"As the prime template of a three-and-defense player in today's NBA, Green could command around $10 to $12 million as an unrestricted free agent, a former second-round NBA draft selection who will land his first major contract."

Tony Parker doesn't think Tim Duncan or Manu Ginobili will desert him in 2015-16

The Spurs are planning to offer rising star Kawhi Leonard a max contract, and early indications are that Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili both could return to join guard Tony Parker for one more run with the team at an NBA title.

San Antonio also is said to be pursuing a big-name free agent, such as the Portland Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge or the Memphis Grizzlies' Marc Gasol.

The Spurs have 10 free agents to deal with as the July 1 free-agency period opens and could be resigned to losing a few pieces of the team that helped the franchise win the 2014 NBA championship.

Green earned just more than $4 million in 2014-15, but his play in the 2013 and 2014 postseasons likely have earned him a lot more value on the free-agent market.

He told the San Antonio Express-News, "I hope it (free agency) doesn't get too crazy. You don't want to count on things in advance, but I just hope I can capitalize on I guess what you'd call a career peak."

The Spurs, understanding their team is going to look different in 2015-16, are trying to move up in the draft, according to a tweet from Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy.

It's unclear whether the Spurs would try to negotiate a sign-and-trade with Green to send to the Thunder.
