Add another name to the list of injured starters for the Green Bay Packers.

One day after losing left tackle Bryan Bulaga to a knee injury and after receiver Randall Cobb dropped out of Tuesday's practice with a biceps injury, the team announced that wide receiver Jordy Nelson underwent knee surgery on Monday and will miss the remainder of the preseason.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy made the announcement on Tuesday that Nelson will not be available for the rest of the preseason.

Nelson, who left practice last week and didn't play in the team's scrimmage on Friday night, opted for surgery to correct a nerve issue in his knee that he's experienced since his college days at Kansas State.

Nelson said the issue has flared up periodically at random times, and more recently at the start of this season's training camp. Nelson noted he could have played with the pain all season and he has been taking medication for it, but instead he opted to try and correct the problem, forfeiting the rest of the preseason.

The Packers remain hopeful that Nelson, who the team drafted in the second round (36th overall) of the NFL Draft in 2008, will be ready for the team's first regular-season game on the road against San Francisco Sept. 8.

Nelson, 28, won the Super Bowl in the 2010-11 season with the Packers and had 49 receptions for 745 yards with seven touchdowns in 12 games last year.

The Packers are looking to replicate the team's recent success this season, after going 11-5 in 2012 and defeating the rival Minnesota Vikings in the wildcard playoffs before losing to the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs.
