Alex Rodriguez To Play Vs. White Sox? A-Rod Suspension Under Joint Drug Agreement, Not CBA, Allowing Yankees Third Baseman To Play During Appeal

The circus is coming to Chicago. According to reports, the New York Yankees are planning on having Alex Rodriguez in the lineup Monday night when they take on the Chicago White Sox.

When asked about Rodriguez's return manager Joe Girardi said:

"I think all of us are curious what's going to happen, and is Alex going to be a player for us tomorrow, and what's going to happen with the other guys that are involved in this. [But] in my mind I have him penciled in there tomorrow."

Some had speculated that Rodriguez could be suspended under the "best interests of baseball" clause, which would have made his suspension immediate and barred him from playing while appealing.

MLB is expected to announce the suspensions of Rodriguez and multiple other players involved with the Biogenesis clinic today at noon. Meanwhile, several of A-Rod's teammates expressed excitement at having the tarnished star back at third.

Robinson Cano, the Yankees' best player and the rock of the order said "I would say we need him a lot. If you can see, we don't have Jeter right now and the only guy you have is Soriano in the lineup, the only righty. Hopefully he comes back healthy and helps us win some games."

Indeed, the Yankees could use Rodriguez's pop at the hot corner. Yankees' third basemen have combined to hit a meager four home runs this season, a total fewer than the collective home runs hit by Chicago Cubs pitchers.

Also, injuries have hit shortstop Derek Jeter once again. Reports are out that Jeter has suffered a strained calf this time, and will be out indefinitely. A frustrated Jeter said "This whole season has been a nightmare."

Describing his strain Jeter said, "The odd thing is there was no play where it happened. Usually, you feel it on a particular play. I didn't feel it on any particular play. We got out to Los Angeles and I began to feel it [Sunday] night and [Monday] on the off day."
