After finishing last in his last event, Tiger Woods is camped out at the site of next week's U.S. Open, covering all his bases. Meanwhile, his kids did something to have his clubs covered.
CBS Sports is reporting that Woods' kids presented the former No. 1 golfer in the world with some new tiger golf club head covers, in hopes that his luck turns around.
Tiger Woods falls behind Phil Mickelson as world's highest-paid golfer
Woods turned in the worst performance of his professional career at the Memorial last week, shooting a 14-over 302 to finish last among all the players who made the cut. His score included a third-round 85.
The 302 and 85 scores, respectively, were the highest scores he's ever had at the pro level for 72 and 18 holes.
Woods now is ranked an almost unheard of 195th in the world as he gets ready for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington. The three-time U.S. Open champ played a nine-hole practice round there, according to ESPN, and did not appear to be wearing the effects of his previous finish.
"But you'd have hardly known it Sunday as he played the front nine at Chambers Bay," ESPN reported. "He spent most of the past week in Florida working with his instructor, Chris Como, who was on hand for the practice round on the links-like layout that borders Puget Sound."
That may be because the rest of the field may struggle as much as Woods next week at the event.
ESPN reported that Mike Davis, the executive director of the United States Golf Association and the man responsible for setting up the U.S. Open Golf Course, suggested that numerous rounds at Chambers Bay would be required for players to have a chance to win, which drew criticism.
Woods, however, agreed with Davis' assessment.
"There's no way you can play this course blind,'' Woods said. "There is so much information to download. You don't have any chance if you haven't seen this place.''
At least Woods will have seen it - with his hopefully lucky tiger golf head covers.
