The New York Jets edged the Miami Dolphins 23-20 thanks to a 33-yard field goal from Nick Folk in overtime at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
The victory however, came at a price when Darrelle Revis injured himself and had to be carried off. The magnitude of the injury is not known, but there is a possibility of it being a long-term one.
Santonio Holmes caught 9 passes for 147 yards, his biggest play being a 38-yarder down the near sideline that set up Folk's game-winner. It was his first 100-yard game since 2010.
Against the Dolphins, Revis was replaced by Kyle Wilson whose 19-yard pass-interference call on third and 10 from Jets' 42 proved to be costly. It allowed the Dolphins to even the score with 16 seconds left on a field goal by Dan Carpenter.
The Jets committed nine penalties for 108 yards, Eric Smith being the main culprit. He committed two critical personal fouls. Jorvorskie Lane, three plays later, barged into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run, putting Miami ahead by 17-10.
The New York Jets then drew closer trailing by that margin after three quarters, on a 20-yard field goal by Nick Folk, a drive aided by a 66-yard catch-and-run by Kerley.
After the match quarterback Mark Sanchez said: "It was a roller coaster, no doubt. The defense and the other players picked me up when I didn't have it. It was an ugly win."
While the Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake added: "There's no script. It just happens."
