Floyd Mayweather Jr. is currently training to defend his 147-lb. titles, his spotless 44-0-0, 26 KO record, and his perch as the greatest boxer in the sport today on September 14th against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Distractions continue popping up for "Money" May, however.
Mayweather resides in Las Vegas and is a notorious sports bettor, so of course he is connected to a new CNBC program called Money Talks, which features "Steve Stevens'" company VIP Sports in a reality-styled show. VIP Sports boasts a 71.5 percent chance at success thanks to Stevens, and the show is considered a "docu-soap" that follows Stevens and those risking large amounts of money on his company's recommendations.
According to reports, though, Steve Stevens doesn't exist. He is actually Darin Notaro, a man with a checkered history.
Notaro was arrested for taking part in a telemarketing scheme that sucked over $234,000 away from elderly victims. He has also been caught in other telemarketing schemes, all of which surfaced between the ages of 24 and 27.
Todd Fuhrman, a prominent former Vegas oddsmaker, told media that no one in the Vegas gambling scene has ever heard of Steve Stevens. "CNBC calls this handicapper well known. Yet, oddly enough no one, and I mean no one, in the sports betting community I speak with daily knows who this guy is."
Notaro also appeared in Floyd Mayweather's documentary 30 Days in May as himself, referred to as the manager of Mayweather's record label Philthy Rich Records. According to reports VIP Records is a neighbor of the Mayweather Boxing Club, which sits just a few doors away.
Mayweather is not accused of being involved in any scams involving Notaro, nor is he currently being investigated to anyone's knowledge. However, the connection breeds questions.
With one of the biggest fights of his career looming, and a potential split with his fiancée underway, Mayweather's attention could be getting pulled in too many directions prior to this prizefight.
