Muhammad Wilkerson wants to see some green from Gang Green.
Wilkerson, a key part of the New York Jets defensive line, has been waiting on a contract extension from the Jets, but talks haven't gotten very far.
The frustration, apparently, is getting to the 6-foot-4, 305 pounder.
Shortly after the New Orleans Saints inked Cameron Jordan to a five-year, $55 million contract extension through 2020, Wilkerson took to his official @mowilkerson Twitter handle and sent out a cryptic tweet:
While it isn't confirmed, one would assume that Wilkerson was likely tweeting about the Jordan deal and lamenting the fact that the Jets still haven't offered him a long-term pact of his own.
Jordan, drafted 24th overall in the 2011 draft, will rake in $33.8 million in guarantees while Wilkerson, who was taken No. 30 overall in that same draft, will earn $6.97 million this season in the final year of his contract.
According to ESPN, Wilkerson has been seeking a contract with $40 million in guarantees and an average annual salary of $14 million while the Jets are likely to use Jordan's pact as a benchmark for negotiations.
Jordan has 29 sacks over the first four seasons of his career while Wilkerson has 24.5 and has been a huge force for New York's strong defensive line.
General manger Mike Maccagnan, in his first year as the team's general manager after the failed John Idzik experiment, has said he is open to extend Wilkerson.
However, things seemed to have shifted ever since Maccagnan drafted Leonard Williams -- highly regarded as the best player in the draft when the Jets were on the clock -- with the No. 6 overall pick last month.
Wilkerson hasn't appeared at voluntary workouts thus far and there is a lot of speculation that he may no-show the mandatory minicamp next week, which would lead to a hefty fine.
The Jets are coming into the 2015-16 campaign on the heels of a nightmarish 4-12 season that saw a major organizational change as Maccagnan took over for Idzik and Rex Ryan was fired and supplanted by Todd Bowels at the head coaching helm.
