Gennady Golovkin Next Fight: Boxing Legend Thinks Carl Froch Is A Very Dangerous Matchup [VIDEO]

Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is an undefeated knockout artist who seems invincible, and is being ducked like crazy by big name fighters. Because top middleweights won't get in the ring with him, Golovkin is opening up to fighting above his weight class, eyeing a 168-pound showdown with Carl "The Cobra" Froch.

Froch's own promoter Eddie Hearn is lukewarm on the dangerous pairing, but boxing legend Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini thinks Golovkin is the one who must beware.

"That's a bad fight for Golovkin," Mancini said. "Not that Golovkin couldn't beat him, but Froch is a big, strong guy. Style wise it's not right.

"Styles make fights, fighters don't make fights. Froch is a bad style for Golovkin. Not that he couldn't beat him but it's one of those fights where you may win but you're going to leave a pound of flesh too."

Mancini may be right, which is why Golovkin's handlers have remained steadfast in their desire to fight WBC champion Miguel Cotto, or big 154-pounder Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Golovkin has also shown interest in facing Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin, or Canadian David Lemieux.

Cotto has been the most frequent call-out, but Mancini offered a strong opinion on the likelihood of Golovkin-Cotto.

"Freddie Roach won't let him [Cotto] get within the same area code as Golovkin," Mancini said. Cotto is making his first WBC title defense this Saturday in Brooklyn vs. Daniel Geale, even though Geale was knocked out in fewer than four rounds by Golovkin last summer.

Cotto was allowed one voluntary title defense-he's chosen Geale-before facing Golovkin, the mandatory challenger. Strings have been pulled, however, and Cotto is likely to be allowed to face Alvarez next if he wins. Sources close to the situation say Cotto and Alvarez must both guarantee the winner will face Golovkin next if their fight is to be sanctioned.
