Emma Talley Golf News: Alabama Star Makes Women's Golf History [VIDEO]

Memorial Day weekend is great for a number of reasons. It marks an important day for Americans to remember those that have served, it gives most people a three-day weekend, it provides the setting for a gaggle of barbecues, beach trips, and pool parties, and it marks the unofficial start of summer.

And while many people were enjoying some or all of those fruits this weekend, University of Alabama student Emma Talley was having herself a pretty special weekend also. Talley is a star golfer, and according to Fox Sports, she made history this weekend with her performance.

Talley won the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Monday, making her just the fifth woman in history to win both the NCAA title and the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

After a delay because of the weather, Talley holed an eight-foot putt for birdie on the final hole of the tournament that gave her a one-stroke victory over Arkansas' Gaby Lopez and Duke's Leona Maguire.

''It was just an incredible week,'' said Talley, a junior from Princeton, Kentucky. ''I had been playing well up to this point, and everything kind of came together and clicked just at the right time. God's blessed me with so much, and I just took it and ran with it.''

Talley has not given any indication about her future plans, but it certainly looks like she will be able to make some noise on the LPGA tour once her college days are done.
