Jeremy Macklin Injury: Philadelphia Eagles' Receiver Tears ACL, Likely Out For Year

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Macklin suffered a torn ACL during the team’s second full day of training camp Saturday, effectively ending the five year veteran’s season before it even started.

According to USA Today Sports, Macklin suffered the injury in a freak practice field accident where he wasn’t even touched by a teammate. He laid writing on the ground in pain for several minutes before trainers were able to assist him. The newspaper reported Macklin was carted off the field without being able to put any weight on his leg.

"I [had] seen it out of the corner of my eye," quarterback Michael Vick told USA Today. "I [had] seen him fall. And usually, when a guy falls like that, you know it's something to be worried about."

"It looked like his knee just kind of buckled on him a little bit," wide receiver DeSean Jackson told the newspaper. "Hopefully it's not too bad and that he can get back out there and play with us this year."

The injury couldn’t come at a more inopportune time for Macklin, who besides trying to acclimate himself with new coach Chip Kelly’s high-powered offense was entering the final year of his contract. He caught 69 passes for 857 yards last season with seven touchdowns as the Eagles' leading wideout.

Just two into training camp and the Eagles have already lost two of their top two receivers to knee injuries. Arrelious Benn left Friday's practice with a knee issue and didn't practice Saturday.
