Adrian Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP who returned from a torn ACL in nine months and proceeded to run rampant over his competition all season long, told reporters that he's certain players are using human growth hormone.
Peterson, whose running carried the Minnesota Vikings and their suspect running game to the playoffs said he is excited for the NFL to implement an HGH testing program that will start "evening out the playing field."
"You've got HGH, something that doesn't show up on a test, and you've got guys out there trying to provide for their families," Peterson said. "They're going to try to get that edge, get that advantage, especially if they're not worried about trying to get caught. Yeah, it's being used."
Peterson also acknowledged widespread speculation that his phenomenal recovery from ACL surgery has been chemically aided. He has denied those claims, and is adamant about wanting a clean league.
"[Testing] will bring a lot of people to light, Peterson said. "It'll clear a lot of people, on the outside, their curiosity when it comes to different players. So I'm all in for it. I don't worry about those types of supplements, using those, because I'm all natural. I work hard. This right here, it's a test for me personally, that I know that, 'Hey, I'm clean as a whistle,' and other guys as well. And then, like I say, it'll bring some guys to the forefront and be like, 'Hey, I guess this is how this guy's been performing so well.'"
The Vikings didn't take it easy on their star rusher, who toted the rock 348 times and ran wild for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns. The NFL is hoping Peterson is being honest about being unsullied by PEDs; he is gracing an alternate cover of Madden 14, the signature video game of the NFL.
