The New York Mets (45-53) will play the first game of a day-night doubleheader today at 1:35 p.m. in Washington D.C. against the Nationals (49-53), who despite their preseason expectations, are only a few games ahead of the Mets. The game can be live streamed here; Mets fans can listen to the game on 101.9 WFAN FM while Nationals fans can do the same on 106.7 The Fan.

It is an exciting day for Mets fans, as Jenrry Mejia (0-0, 0.00 ERA), once one of the Mets most prized prospects, makes his 2013 debut after undergoing a long rehab process following Tommy John surgery.

Mejia had elbow inflammation in spring training which landed him on the disabled list, but after going 2-0 with an 0.82 ERA in Double A is being given a chance to reclaim his standing in the organization.

Mets manager Terry Collins spoke about Mejia's return, saying "We've tried to let him know or wanted him to understand -- what he's hearing today about (Zack) Wheeler, about Harvey was all about Jenrry Mejia three years ago. Sky's the limit, plus stuff, power arm -- all those things, and he's only 23 years old."

Mejia will go up against Jordan Zimmermann (12-5, 3.01 ERA), who has given Stephen Strasburg a run for his money as the top pitcher on the Nationals staff this season. Washington won in dramatic fashion last night on Bryce Harper's first career walk-off home run. They are hoping the good vibrations carry over into this series with the Mets, and can launch them back into the National League East crown conversation.

Great to get the 'W' today. We really needed it," said Harper. "Hopefully this one will carry on into tomorrow and the next day." Despite missing significant time earlier in the season with a sore knee, Harper is batting .271 with 14 home runs and 31 RBI as a 20-year-old.
