Percy Harvin Hip Injury Needs Surgery? Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll Says Operation A Possiblilty

The Seattle Seahawks made a huge offseason trade for wide receiver Percy Harvin this offseason, in an effort to nurture their blossoming second-year quarterback Russell Wilson. Bad news is coming out of Seahawks camp, however. Harvin may have a serious hip injury.

The Seahawks recently placed Harvin on the Physically Unable to Perform List, and the team believes their new No. 1 receiver might have a slight tear in the labrum of his hip.

"It's in that area, yeah," head coach Pete Carroll said. "We're going to take a real good look at it and get second opinions and all that kind of stuff, to do the right thing. It's really early in camp, we got plenty of time to get this thing worked out, so we're being very careful."

That is not good news for Seattle, or the injury-prone Harvin who played just nine games for the Minnesota Vikings last season. Carroll discussed the possibility of surgery with NFL.com.

"It may be [an option]. We'll find out," Carroll said of the possibility that Harvin will need surgery. "We're going to go ahead and take it step by step. I know he was working full speed just a few days ago. But we need to take care of him. We don't know enough information. The number of guys we have on PUP we have to be careful. We have to bring them back in good order and be diligent about the process right now."

Last year, despite playing in only nine games Harvin was able to reel in 67 passes for 677 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers were with Christian Ponder at quarterback, and Seattle's quarterback situation represents a large upgrade.

Last season the Seahawks receiving corps was led by Golden Tate, who made 45 catches for 688 yards and seven scores while playing in 15 games.
