As the NFL pulls into Week 3 and the weekend games, some big name players will be missing from the action.
The New York Giants were able to win on Thursday night without three big starters, including running back Ahmad Bradshaw, lineman David Diehl and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Backup running back Andre Brown, receiver Ramses Barden and lineman Will Beatty all had great games for the Giants, who demolished the Panthers 36-7.
Safety Antrell Rolle hurt his knee in the game when he chased an opponent out of bounds and collided with a camera. He hit his knee as he tried to jump over a cameraman and lacerated his knee, but the injury is not expected to be serious. Here is a video of Rolle colliding with the camera:
Other teams around the league that will be missing big name starters include the Pittsburgh Steelers, who face off against the Oakland Raiders in California.
Defensive superstar linebacker James Harrison and safety Troy Polamalu will both miss the game and did not practice this week. Both players missed last week's game, a win against the New York Jets at home.
Polamalu and Harrison have combined for 12 Pro Bowls and have each won an AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. Harrison has been limited since having knee surgery in August, while Polamalu has a calf injury.
The Chicago Bears will be without starting running back Matt Forte in their game against the St. Louis Rams due to an ankle injury he sustained last Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. The Bears were beat soundly in that game 23-10.
Michael Bush, who was signed in the offseason to a four-year, $14 million deal, will start in place of Forte. Last season Bush started nine games for the Oakland Raiders and rushed for nearly 1,000 yards. This season he has rushed for two touchdowns and 96 yards.
"Hopefully I can get people to get that knock off me about not being an every down back," Bush said. "But I can't please everybody. It's a business, it is what it is. If you don't like me, so what. I'm going to keep on playing hard," Bush said to ESPNChicago.com. "I still think I need to prove to the coaches each week that I get a chance. The more I get to play, the more I get to show them, and the more they'll (hopefully) trust in me, believe in me and give me more opportunities to more things. But for the most part I know they've got my back, regardless."
Dynamic wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will miss the Philadelphia Eagles' game against the Arizona Cardinas due to a hip injury.
Both teams enter the game 2-0, with the Eagles edging out a win over the Ravens last week and the Cardinals upsetting the Patriots in New England.
"(Maclin is) a good football player," Reid said on the team's website, according to ESPN.com. "The other guys have practiced and they're ready to go. I've always said that if somebody misses, it's another man's opportunity. So I expect the other guys to step up and play well."
On Monday Night Football this week, the Green Bay Packers may be without one of their best receiving threats. Greg Jennings missed his second day of practice on Friday after missing last week's game against the Bears.
He injured his groin in the opening game against the San Francisco 49ers and also dealt with concussion issues in the preseason.
In some good injury news, the New York Jets will welcome back cornerback Darelle Revis after missing last week's game against the Steelers with concussion issues.
The cornerback told ESPNNewYork.com, "I'm playing Sunday."
He participated in full practice this week after getting cleared for contact and will play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
This is a must-win for us," Revis said. "We need this win. The expectations are high for us to go down there and get a win Sunday."
Revis was hurt in the opening win against Buffalo in the fourth quarter after getting knocked in the back of the head by linebacker Bart Scott.
The Jets lost last week against the Steelers without Revis playing and gave up four touchdowns while getting no interceptions.
