Troubled NBA veteran Delonte West is hoping for one last shot at getting back into the league next season.
West, who spent the 2012-2013 season ostracized from the league after the Dallas Mavericks washed their hands of him following an assortment of disciplinary issues, now claims to have righted his act and is seeking one last chance.
“I had tears in my eyes watching games this past year—not because I’m bipolar, but because I’m sitting at home and miss the game” West told Slam Online. “When my agent calls, I’m going to be on the next flight. Not to be cocky, but some teams that are trying to win are one guard away, one guy that can make a couple great plays away from going to the Finals. Well, I’m right here,” Y’all know it and I know it.”
Talent has never really been the issue for the 29 year-old veteran of nine seasons. Over that time he has played for four different organizations, including the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2007 to 2010, where he exited tumultuously amid persistent rumors he had engaged in an improper relationship with the mother of LeBron James.
But now West assures that is all behind him. “I watched the NBA all last year,” he told Slam. “What I ended up saying to myself is, let me stop playing around; let me get back on the path that I was on; let me get into my groove. When I get another chance, I’m going to put the blinders on. After this, I’m just breaking free of that stigma, letting stuff go, putting that stuff behind me. I’m going to show that I’ve grown, stats-wise and person-wise.”
