The Edmonton Oilers and restricted free agent Sam Gagner have reached an agreement on a three-year deal, according to reports.
Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish announced the deal on Monday and the Oilers twitter account tweeted it soon after.
According to reports, the deal includes a no-trade and no-movement clause and is worth $14.4 million with an annual average value of $4.8 million. The no-trade and no-movement clauses kick in at the start of the 2014-15 season.
"So happy to remain an Edmonton Oiler for at least three more years," Gagner tweeted shortly after the deal was announced. "Thanks to everyone for the support. Time to get to work."
An arbitration meeting between Gagner and the Oilers was set for Monday morning, but the sides avoided it by striking a deal without mediators. Gagner, who made $2.275 million last season, reportedly was asking for a $5.5 million a year deal while Edmonton was looking to pay him a $3.5 million annual salary.
Luckily for both parties, the two sides were able to reach a deal on the $4.8 million annual salary and avoid arbitration.
Gagner, 23, scored 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points in the 48 game lockout-shortened season in 2013. Going into 2013, Gagner averaged just 44 points-per-season, and had it been a full season Gagner was on pace to set career highs in scoring.
Edmonton selected Ganger sixth overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Level draft. Gagner has scored a career total of 91 goals, 167 assists and 258 points in 414 games played, all with Edmonton.
