Floyd Mayweather Fight 2013 Undercard: Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse To Fight September 14 Before Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez Main Event

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez lock horns on September 14th, in one of the biggest fights the sport has seen since Mayweather transformed into the boxing's top draw against Oscar De La Hoya, that will not be the only big-name fight on the card.

According to reports, undefeated Danny Garcia will also put his title on the line September 14th, against knockout artist Lucas Matthysse.

While Garcia (26-0-0, 16 KO) is already a big draw, having recorded wins over Erik Morales, Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson, it has taken Matthysse a bit longer to establish a name for himself, despite an impressive 34-2-0, record with a staggering 32 knockouts.

Many fighters are believed to have avoided Matthysse and his brutal punching power, but now that he holds a light welterweight title belt, he is becoming harder to avoid. After decimating Lamont Peterson in less than three rounds in May, with Garcia in attendance, fans clamored for the two to settle the top spot in the weight class.

After several months of dilly-dallying, the fight appears made, making for one of the most star-studded pay-per-view cards in boxing history. Both fighters possess knockout power, but Matthysse's thunder is perhaps only matched by middleweight fighter "GGG" Gennady Golovkin.

Both fighters were recently active; Matthysse's demolition of Peterson was mentioned above while Garcia defeated Zab Judah in Brooklyn in March. Garcia had impressively knocked out Morales and Khan prior to the Judah bout, however, and is frequently underestimated heading into his fights.

If Garcia and Matthysse put on an entertaining show, which is very likely, the winner is expected to step up in weight and pay grade for a fight against the Mayweather vs. Alvarez winner.

While Garcia vs. Matthysse is large enough fight to carry it's own show, each fighter will receive a seven-figure payday to do battle on the undercard, and get maximum exposure.
