Alex Rodriguez Plea Agreement? A-Rod May Work With MLB, Get Suspension Reduced For Steroid Scandal

Attorneys for New York Yankees All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriguez have approached Major League Baseball officials about brokering a plea deal agreement that could curtail his looming suspension in connection with an ongoing performance-enhancing drug scandal. 

With speculation swirling Rodriguez, 38, could be suspended for up to 150 games, nearly an entire season, a spokesperson for the three-time AL MVP told The New York Daily News “we are respecting the process and following the procedures as outlined."

Both Rodriguez and fellow former league MVP Ryan Braun have been implicated by former Biogenesis Clinic founder Anthony Bosch as players who have previously purchased steroids from him, according to The News.

Sources add Rodriguez’s recent meeting with MLB officials lasted more than four hours and he emerged from it “clearly shaken” after investigators laid out their case against him. Now on a 20-day rehab assignment for the Yankees Single-A team, Rodriguez failed to show up for last Friday’s game following the meeting, further drawing the ire of team GM Brain Cashman.

As The News has reported, MLB is believed to have extensive evidence against Rodriguez, including direct testimony from Bosch. During his interview, Rodriguez is believed to have followed the strategy of at least 10 other major leaguers who were also interviewed by MLB, which was to invoke baseball’s version of the Fifth Amendment: remaining silent.

Rodriguez has some $100 million remaining on his contract with the Yankees, and the fear among his supporters is any such lengthy suspension could effectively end his career.
