Snoop Lion, formerly known as Snoop Dogg, who himself once faced murder charges, has digitally expressed his support for disgraced former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez.

“Keep ya held up! We prayin 4 ya,” Snoop posted on Instagram under a photo of the two partying in a club LarryBrownSports.com estimates was taken as long as four months ago.

Hernandez, 23, remains jailed on first-degree murder charges and at least five gun-related charges in connection with the execution-style slaying of 27-year-old associate and former semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd late last month.

Lloyd’s bullet-riddled body was found less than a mile from Hernandez’s North Attleborough mansion. Almost immediately, police suspected Hernandez’s involvement and moved to arrest him after he turned over his cell phone to them smashed into pieces and intentionally disconnected his home security system.

Carlos Ortiz, a boyhood friend of Hernandez, has since told police he was with both Hernandez and Lloyd on the night in question and earlier this week led police to a “flop house” Hernandez was secretly renting where they also recovered the clothing he was allegedly wearing that night.

In 1993, Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was charged in connection with the shooting death of rival gang member Phillip Woldermarian, who was shot and killed by McKinley Lee, the rap star’s bodyguard. Snoop, who was driving the vehicle from which McKinley fired, was also charged with murder.

Defended by now deceased O.J. Simpson lead attorney Johnnie Cochran, both Snoop and Lee were acquitted.
