The Baltimore Orioles (48-37) are three games behind the Boston Red Sox for first place in the American League East, and they will look to take a series against the Chicago White Sox (33-48), on Independence Day. The game can be live streamed here; Orioles fans can listen to the game on 1090 WBAL, while White Sox fans can do the same on WSCR 670.
The Orioles and masher Chris Davis will look to keep hitting bombs against White Sox starter Jose Quintana (3-2, 3.97 ERA). If it weren't for the historic brilliance of Miguel Cabrera, Davis would be the frontrunner for American League MVP and it wouldn't be close.
In 2013, Davis is hitting .331 and has a MLB-leading 32 home runs. He's also got 83 RBI, a 1.137 OPS, and he's slugging a ridiculous .731. In the last week alone he is hitting .293, with four homers and nine RBI, reaching base at a .368 clip. While he was a highly regarded power-hitting prospect, no one foresaw the pure hitting success he's had, combined with the long ball prowess.
"I think it's more a feeling of comfort than anything else," he said. "I feel comfortable in the box. I feel like I'm seeing the ball well and getting good pitches to hit. I feel comfortable hitting with no strikes, one strike or two strikes."
His teammate, Adam Jones, is also having a stellar campaign, batting .293 with 15 home run and 59 RBI. Davis, Jones, and third baseman Manny Machado have formed a formidable offense that has carried a subpar pitching staff this year.
That pitchng staff received a shot in the arm this week, though, with the addition of Scott Feldman who won last night. Tonight, Zach Britton (2-2, 4.50 ERA) goes for the O's. Britton had bent sent to Triple-A early in the year, but since getting recalled has recorded a 2.81 ERA in three starts.
