Tim Tebow Witnessed Aaron Hernandez Bar Fight In 2007, Could He Replace Tight End Role On Patriots?

As investigators and reporters delve further into the life of former Patriot's tight end Aaron Hernandez, stories such as a 2007 bar fight involving Hernandez, Tim Tebow, and an unpaid drink tab surface.

Back when Hernandez was just 17 years old, he was drinking at a popular Florida bar called The Swamp. When he was asked to pay for the two drinks he consumed, he engaged Michael Taphorn in an argument. Then-teammate Tim Tebow stepped in to try and cool the situation off, to no avail.

Hernandez snapped, punching Taphorn in the side of the head and rupturing his eardrum so badly that Florida police recommended felony assault charged be filed against the freshman football player. Those charges never materialized.

Now, Hernandez is spending his days in a Massachusetts prison, in protective custody awaiting trial for first degree murder, as well as several weapons charges. Before the grisly murder of Odin Lloyd, the man Hernandez is suspected of killing, his ex-Gator teammate Tebow was signed as a free agent.

Tebow is a multi-talented football player, but so far in his career, accurately passing the football has not been one of those talents. It is unclear what his role will be in New England, with Tom Brady entrenched as the offense's leader.

Perhaps, though, with Hernandez's release, Tebow and his six feet, two inch, 236 lb. frame can morph into a tight end and replicate the production of former Florida target.

That's likely a pipe dream. Tebow has no experience at the position, while Hernandez excelled at both the college and pro level. Tebow, however, is a supreme athlete, and it is not  a stretch to speculate that the organization is considering him for a Hernandez-type role, even if it is part-time in the beginning.

In his three seasons with the Patriots, Hernandez was given nine rushing attempts, as New England tends to use its players in any capacity their talent allows. Tebow is certainly a talented rusher, and with his frame, figures to at least be passable as a tight end if given enough instruction.
