A former Biogenesis Clinic worker is demanding at least $1 million from Major League Baseball officials before he turns over proof Yankees star Alex Rodriguez was among those purchasing performance enhancing drugs from the Miami-based facility.
According to TMZ, ex-worker Porter Fischer met with MLB officials on Tuesday, where he and his attorneys made their demands known.
Ray Rafool, Fischer’s lawyer, told TMZ his client is offering to provide the drug-purchasing records of both Rodriguez and fellow former league MVP Ryan Braun. MLB officials have expressed an interest in obtaining them as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of widespread steroids use among players.
In all, Fischer claims he has the goods on more than 100 MLB players, all of whom he alleges bought steroids directly from clinic owner Tony Bosch.
It’s been a grueling few days for Rodriguez, who less than 24 hours earlier was formally cleared by the New York Yankees to begin playing in rehab games. Before that, Rodriguez had engaged in an ongoing war of words with GM Brain Cashman stemming over when he might return to play from the hip surgery he underwent over the off season.
Sources have speculated both Rodriguez and Braun could face suspensions of up to 100 games each, as this marks at least the second time both have been either investigated or implicated for alleged doping offenses.
