Vince McMahon may be on board with "The Beast" retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at WrestleMania.

A report circulated earlier this month that Triple H was making a push backstage for the WWE to change its plans and have Brock Lesnar defeat Roman Reigns this Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., and now the WWE chairman may be on board.

The initial report indicated that the WWE would keep the belt on Lesnar while Daniel Bryan and John Cena would win the Intercontinental and United States Championships, respectively, so that they could headline shows with those belts in Lesnar's absence due to his part-time deal.

Bryan is slated to be in a seven-man Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship while Cena is booked to face-off with Rusev for the United States Championship.

According to WrestlingInc.com, there is a belief that McMahon could be on board with the decision to have Lesnar go over Sunday, despite the fact that the plan has been for Reigns to walk out with the gold for a few months now.

If Lesnar goes over, Bryan and Cena will defend their belts on the main events of house shows and pay-per-views that "The Beast" isn't attending.

Many people are comparing Reigns' recent push to that of Lex Luger, who the WWE hitched its wagon to it late 1993. Luger was slated to win the WWE Championship from Yokozuna at WrestleMania X in 1994, but after he failed to get over, the plans were changed.

Luger ended up losing to Yokozuna in the midcard of that huge event while Bret Hart topped Yokozuna in the main event to leave Madison Square Garden as the champion.

Reigns is having some similar battles getting over due to the WWE Universe not believing he's ready for the top match of the year despite him being hand-picked by WWE management for the role.

There is a feeling that Lesnar may retain the title while either Bryan or a returning Sheamus will win the Ladder Match and Cena will go over Rusev.

There is also said to be a strong indication that Dean Ambrose will be pushed heavily heading into SummerSlam this August, so he'll likely shine in the Ladder Match even if it's in a losing effort.

Lesnar was at an impasse with the WWE over contract negotiations, but the two sides eventually settled up and he re-signed with the company at RAW this past Monday in Los Angeles.

According to the report, Lesnar's deal with the WWE is a three-year pact worth $3 million per year, which would be less than what he was making in the past as it was rumored he was taking in $5 million a year.

It remains to be seen what the WWE will do come Sunday, but Lesnar re-signing just six nights before the biggest show of the year has added extra intrigue to WrestleMania 31.
