What They're Saying
Germany head coach Joachim Low (via ESPN FC): "Lukas [Podolski] has always been there for us in the last 11 years. He gave it his all for the team. He played a load of games (121), and scored many goals (47) and he still has a lot of quality. Age has not taken its toll. He has our full support behind him. This will help him at his club, wherever he will be playing. It's important for him that he gets to play regularly and plays well. There is a lot of competition in his position and once we get closer to France, it is about getting minutes and having good form."
Australia head coach Ange Postecoglou (via Goal): "In isolation our achievement is great, but if you don't build on it, you miss an opportunity. We've had great moments in our football history before and we've capitalized on some of them and some we haven't, so it's up to now the responsibility of the national team. But also everyone involved in the game to continually strive to better and hopefully improve the status of the game in the country."
