The San Francisco Giants (39-42) have struggled to a surprising degree in 2013, and sitting at three games under .500 will look to ride Buster Posey's hot bat in a four-game series against the National League Central power Cincinnati Reds (46-36). The game can be live streamed here at 7:00 p.m.; Giants fans can hear the game on KNBR 680 while Reds fans can listen in on WLW 700.
The Reds power-laden lineup has a juicy matchup tonight against Giants starter Mikel Kickham (0-2, 10.57 ERA), who has been blasted twice in two starts by the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers. He has given up 12 hits and nine earned runs in just 7.2 innings of work.
With Kickham on the mound, San Francisco will likely need to be carried by the offense. Luckily Posey, the team's leader and best hitter, has been swinging one of the best bats in the big leagues lately. Posey has homered in four of the Giants' last five games, and has upped his batting average to .322.
"(Posey's) been really on fire for us, giving us a chance to win some of these games," said San Fran outfielder Hunter Pence.
In the last seven days, Posey is a scorching 10-for-19 (.526) with the aforementioned four home runs and six RBI. Posey will try to stay hot against Reds starter Bronson Arroyo (6-6, 3.61 ERA), who has been having one of the better seasons of his career.
Arroyo has gone six innings or longer in 13 of 16 outings in 2013, and has allowed more than four runs only three times. Cincinnati has his a slide at this point in the year, they are losers of eight of the past 11 games, and need a good performance from Arroyo to wake them up.
Slugger Jay Bruce summed it up when he said, "We couldn't get any type of hit when we needed it. We need to execute better."
