Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriots tight end, has been formally charged with first-degree murder and multiple weapons charges with regards to the shooting death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
In addition to a suit against Hernandez by Florida resident Alexander Bradley for allegedly shooting Bradley in the face, new allegations of Hernandez' involvement in a double murder in Boston are emerging.
According to sources in law enforcement, Hernandez is under investigation in the shooting deaths of Daniel Abreu, and Safire Furtado in downtown Boston in July of 2012. According to a police report, Abreu, Furtado and three other men were in a car after leaving a night club.
While at a red light, a silver or gray SUV pulled up next to their car and opened fire, killing Abreu and Furtado in the front of the car, while injuring the three men in the backseat, who all survived. Supposedly, the night of double murder, that group of men was in an altercation with Hernandez and his crew.
The Boston Globe is now speculating that Lloyd's murder may have taken place because he had information regarding Hernandez' role in the double murder last summer. Previously, it was believed that Lloyd was killed because he spoke to a group of people Hernandez has beef with.
Police have spent the past week combing Hernandez' residence and the murder scene for clues and have pieced together a timeline of the homicide. Evidence includes surveillance of Hernandez and two other men out drinking with Lloyd the night of the murder, video of Hernandez carrying a firearm, and a shell casing that matches bullets from the murder weapon inside a vehicle registered to Hernandez.
Lloyd also sent curious text messages to his sister shortly before he was killed. He texted her, "Did you see who I was with?" He followed it up with "NFL. Just so you know."
Hernandez was released by the Patriots hours after his arrest. He had just signed a $40 million contract that included a $12 million signing bonus.
