The family of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, the late member of TLC who famously set fire to former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Andre "Bad Moon" Rison's mansion, is upset that TLC is replacing Lopes on a remix of their smash hit song "Waterfalls" with Japanese hip-pop star Namie Amuro.
Reigndrop Lopes, Left Eye's sister, said, I did not know about it until a fan posted it online, Reigndrop said. "I mean, it would have been nice if they would have given us a heads up before being surprised." Reigndrop also said her and Left Eye's mother was upset by the choice to replace Lisa.
Left Eye was killed in a 2002 car crash in Honduras, when she crashed a car that hit two trees then flipped over several times, throwing her from the vehicle. She died of head and neck injuries suffered in the wreck, and was the only person killed.
At her funeral, hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri said of Left Eye, "She was determined to be something in life. She was a true Hip-Hop star. She cared about some press. She was the star out of the group. She was the one who would curse on TV. She had the tattoos. You could not expect the expected. When you see Lisa, you could expect something from her. That is the gift she carried."
The new "Waterfalls", featuring Amuro, is rumored to be released in Japan only. The song is also no longer available on Youtube, according to eonline.com, where it could previously be found by typing "20th Anniversary Version-Japan Edition."
Reigndrop and the Lopes family have indicated if the song is released strictly in Japan then they have no issue with the inclusion of Amuro on the track.
Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins has said that TLC will maintain their classic sound with Amuro in the fold. "We're going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time."
